Help Center › Connect NFC Card to Profile
Overview
Before an NFC card can open your profile when tapped, it needs to be linked. Linking (sometimes called activating or assigning) tells the platform which profile a particular card should point to. This page explains what linking is, how to do it, and what to do if you need to reassign a card to a different profile.
---
What "linking" means
Every NFC Tagify card has a unique ID printed on or associated with it. The platform uses this ID to know which profile URL to embed in the chip (or, for pre-programmed cards, which profile the URL should resolve to).
Before linking: The card either shows a default placeholder page or an error when tapped, because the platform does not yet know which profile it belongs to.
After linking: Tapping the card opens the assigned profile immediately.
A card can be assigned to only one profile at a time, but it can be reassigned as many times as needed — useful if a card is handed to a different team member or if someone changes role.

Step by step — how to link a card
Step 1 — Open the portal
Log in to the portal at [portal.nfctagify.com](https://portal.nfctagify.com).
Step 2 — Go to NFC Cards
[NEEDS VERIFICATION: exact menu label and navigation path — likely "NFC Cards", "My Cards", or "Cards" in the sidebar or top navigation]
Look for the NFC Cards section in the navigation menu. This is where all cards associated with your account or company are listed.
Step 3 — Find your card
If your card is already listed, select it. If it is not listed yet, you will need to add it. You can typically do this by:
- Entering the card ID manually — the unique ID is printed on the back of the card or on the packaging
- Scanning the card — on a device with NFC, the portal may offer a scan option to read the card ID automatically
[NEEDS VERIFICATION: whether the portal supports NFC scanning to auto-read the card ID, and where the card ID is physically located on the card/packaging]
Step 4 — Assign the card to a profile
Once the card is selected, choose which profile it should be linked to. If your account has only one profile, it will be selected by default. If your company has multiple profiles (for example, one per team member), select the correct one from the list.
Step 5 — Save
Confirm the assignment. The card is now linked. You can test it immediately by tapping the card with a phone — your profile should open.
---
What changes after linking
Once a card is linked:
- Tapping the card with a phone opens the assigned profile
- The profile is shown as "active" against that card in the portal
- Analytics from taps on that card are recorded against the profile
- The card appears in the linked profile's card history
The linking takes effect as soon as it is saved — there is no delay.
---
How to reassign a card to a different profile
Cards can be unlinked from one profile and linked to another at any time.
After reassigning, taps on that card will open the new profile. The old profile is not affected — it remains active; it simply no longer has that card pointing to it.
This is useful when:
- An employee leaves and their card is handed to someone else
- A card is used temporarily for an event and then returned to a permanent user
- You are reorganising profiles across a team

Viewing all cards on your account
Admins and company managers can see all cards ordered and their current assignment status in the portal. From the NFC Cards section, the list shows:
- Card ID
- Current profile assignment (or "Unlinked" if not yet assigned)
- Order date / date added
- Status (active, pending, unlinked)
[NEEDS VERIFICATION: exact column names and whether this view is available to regular users or admin-only]

Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my card ID?
The card ID is typically printed on the back of the physical card or on the packaging it arrived in. It may also be visible in your order confirmation. If you cannot find it, contact support and provide your order reference.
Can two cards be linked to the same profile?
Yes. Multiple cards can point to the same profile. This can be useful if you have a backup card or if a team shares a single public profile. All taps on all linked cards will be tracked against that profile.
What happens if a card is tapped before it is linked?
The person tapping the card will see a default NFC Tagify page or an error indicating the card is not yet configured. No profile data is shown. Link the card in the portal to resolve this.
Can I link a card to someone else's profile (for example, as an admin setting up cards for a team)?
Yes. Company admins can assign cards to any profile within their company. Go to the NFC Cards section, find the card, and select the appropriate team member's profile. [NEEDS VERIFICATION: exact admin path for bulk card assignment]
Can I order more cards?
Yes. New cards can be ordered through the portal. See [Ordering NFC Cards](./07-nfc-ordering.md) for details.
I reassigned a card but it's still opening the old profile — what's wrong?
This can occasionally happen due to browser or DNS caching. Ask the person to close their browser completely and try the tap again. If the issue persists, check the card's current assignment in the portal to confirm the change was saved.
